Do you havelivedexperience with pain and a passion for creative expression?In collaboration with the Global Alliance of Partners for Pain Advocacy (GAPPA),PAINinvites artists tosubmitoriginal artwork that reflectsyourpersonal experience of pain for a chance to be featured on the cover of our September2026issue, in conjunction with Pain Awareness Month.A shortlist ofexceptionalprojectswill alsobe highlighted byGAPPA and theInternationalAssociationfor the StudyofPain(IASP).
Who canparticipate:
Individuals with lived experience of pain—whether chronic, acute, or related to health conditions—are encouraged to share their unique perspective through art.

PAINisIASP’s flagship scholarlyjournal, devoted to publishing the mostcutting-edgeresearch onthe nature, mechanisms, and treatment of pain. We invite you to browseourfor examples ofart that has been featured in the past.
SubmissionGuidelines:
- Artwork should be original and visually compelling.AI-generated artis not eligible forconsideration.
- Any medium is welcome (painting, drawing, digital art, photography, mixed media).
Submission Materials:
- Submissions will need to be uploaded digitally inthe following format:
- TIFor EPSformatsarepreferred.Rasterimagesmust be atleast300 dpi.
- Imagesof any aspect ratiomay besubmitted. However, please be aware that theselectedartwillbeformattedto fitthe dimensions ofa PAIN cover:8.5inchesby11.25inches(approximately21.5cmby28.5 cm),an aspect ratioof approximately3:4.Preferencemaybegiven toartthat couldbeeasily adapted tothesespecifications.
- Please note that the PAIN logocoversapproximately thetopquarterof thejournalcover.Preference may be given to art thatdoes not include crucial details that wouldbe obscured bythe logo.

- A title andbrief artist statement (150 words max) describing the piece.You maychoose toinclude detailsabout your inspirations,motivations,techniques, materials, andcontext of the work within your greater oeuvre.

The selectedartwork will beshowcasedon the September2026cover ofPAIN, withadditionalfeatures highlighting the artist’s story and creative process.The artist will also have a chance to be interviewedonthe ’s newest podcast,Pain Exchange, to speak more about their work and the artistic process.
